Heroes of the Fourth Turning
Sept 5 – Sept 21
by Will Arbery
Director: Skylar Evans
It's nearing midnight in Wyoming, where four young conservatives have gathered at a backyard after-party. They've returned home to toast their mentor Gina, newly inducted as president of a tiny Catholic college. But as their reunion spirals into spiritual chaos and clashing generational politics, it becomes less a celebration than a vicious fight to be understood. On a chilly night in the middle of America, this haunting play offers grace and disarming clarity, speaking to the heart of a country at war with itself.
“Heroes of the Fourth Turning” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com

The Cast
Director's Notes:
The playwright, Will Arbery, states, "we love our factions, we love our tribes, but we don't love each other."
One of the many debates had in the play is whether to go out into the world and interact with different people with different interests, or to stay hunkered down among the like-minded. Presenting this story as a play - both in a space and to a people predominantly aligned in their way of thinking - is intentional. In a time of increasingly algorithmically-designed echo chambers, do our morals come from within ourselves, or are they derived from an outside source?
If one wants to be seen, "Heroes" asks, are they willing to listen?
There is no simple answer, no moral to easily digest and move past, but the play will make you contemplate, will give you much to discuss, and it will ask you to see your neighbors as human.

Skylar Evans
(He/Him)
After directing Everybody for Left Edge earlier this year, Skylar is excited to change gears to the grounded drama that is Heroes of the Fourth Turning. While he wears many theatrical hats, he is proud to be directing this wonderful ensemble, and he's proud of the entire team. He appeared on the Left Edge stage in both Pass Over and The Play That Goes Wrong, as well as a run of the West Coast premiere of the one-man play adaptation of Sleepy Hollow over at 6th Street Playhouse. Other favorite past directing credits include: Assassins (Co-directed, Sonoma Arts Live), Henry IV Part 1 (Petaluma Shakespeare Company), and Fuddy Meers (Cloverdale PAC). His favorite lighting credit is definitely Les Misérables (SRJC). You might spot him around town as a friendly, neighborhood electrician.
