Since 1980, John has acted in and/or directed for several theaters over the span of almost forty years, including various incarnations at Cinnabar Theater, the original Actors’ Theater, Sixth Street Playhouse, Spreckels Theater, Porchlight Theater, The Imaginists Theater, The Clarence Brown Theater and others. For the last eight years, he has been a core member of Main Stage West in Sebastopol, with frequent appearances there. Some favorites over the years include: Dodge in Buried Child and Ray in Yankee Tavern (both at Main Stage West); Davies in The Caretaker and The Old Man in Fool for Love (at The Imaginists Theater); The Preacher in The Grapes of Wrath and Cléante in Tartuffe (at 6th Street Playhouse); co-director of Road and the role of Elyot Chase in Private Lives (at Cinnabar Theater); Doctor Dorn in The Seagull (at Porchlight Theater); Gaev in The Cherry Orchard (at The Clarence Brown Theater). Recent feature film roles include: Joseph in Burn Country by Ian Olds (2016) and Ray in Freeland due out in 2020. A few shorts as well. Finally, for twenty-seven years, John was also the founder and director of the Art Quest Theater Arts program at Santa Rosa High School.
